Meditations
Words for reflection, comfort, and guidance.
The Serenity Prayer
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
The Prayer of St. Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
The Power of Today
Focus on today. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow has not yet arrived. The only time you have is now. Recovery is built one day at a time, sometimes one moment at a time.
When you wake up, make the conscious decision to stay on your path for today. That is all. Don't worry about next week or next month. By focusing your energy on the present moment, you make the journey manageable. Each day you succeed is a victory, and these victories build upon each other, creating a strong foundation for a new way of life.
The Gift of Gratitude
In the midst of challenges, it can be difficult to see the good. But practicing gratitude can shift our entire perspective. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It transforms denial into acceptance, chaos into order, and confusion into clarity.
Take a moment each day to identify three things you are grateful for, no matter how small. A sunny day, a supportive friend, a moment of peace. Acknowledging these simple gifts can illuminate the path forward and remind us that even on hard days, there is still beauty to be found.
